4th FSVO/UFAW Symposium – Humanely Ending the Life of Animals

FSVO, Liebefeld Campus, Bern, Switzerland, 6-7 March 2024

THIS MEETING HAS NOW TAKEN PLACE

The Swiss Federal Food Safety and Veterinary Office (FSVO) and UFAW worked together again in March 2024 to hold a 2-day meeting in Bern - the aim being to further develop scientific and practical knowledge in humanely ending the life of animals.

The meeting was split into five sessions across the two days: 1) Animals in research; 2) Humane control of ‘Pests’ / Schädlinge; 3) Slaughter of livestock; 4) Depopulation and emergency killing; and 5) Humane killing of aquatic species for food.

Each session was introduced by an invited speaker, who provided a general overview of current practice in the area, and was then followed by presentations given by research and industry specialists on specific areas. Sessions concluded with an extended question and answer/debate period to allow for more in-depth discussion of ideas.

The meeting proved very popular, with in-person attendance fully-booked and over 600 people registering to attend online from over 50 countries.

The meeting was also recorded, The talks can be viewed below.
