UFAW Replacement, Refinement and Reduction (3Rs) Award

UFAW invites applications for an award of up to £20,000 for innovative research or other proposals which will advance the Replacement, Refinement or Reduction of the use of animals in scientific research or testing.

Applicants may be based anywhere in the world.

Use of funds
The award can be used to cover salary, student stipends, research, or travel costs including study/research visits, (or any combination thereof) up to a maximum value of £20,000.

The award cannot be used to support tuition fees or other costs associated with a taught course such as a Masters degree.

UFAW does not normally support institutional overheads.

Application procedure

Application for this award will be a two-stage process. Initially, applicants are asked to submit a brief Concept Note (complete with curriculum vitae(s) and publications lists) by 24th July 2017. Following assessment of Concept Notes, selected applicants will be invited to submit detailed proposals. (NB an invitation to submit a detailed proposal is not a guarantee that the project will be funded).

Detailed proposals may be peer-reviewed and reviewer comments will normally be shared with applicants to allow them to respond prior to final selection of the successful application. The panel may also call short-listed applicants for interview before making an award.

UFAW hopes to be able to announce a successful applicant by the end of October 2017.
