UFAW International Animal Welfare Conference 2025

UFAW is committed to improving animal welfare through a scientific understanding of animals’ needs and how these can be met. In line with this, we are pleased to announce our international conference, to be held online on 24 - 26 June 2025.  

This event will feature a diverse range of presentations, including talks and posters, covering all areas of animal welfare science. By hosting the conference online, we aim to facilitate global engagement and participation while reducing environmental impact*. 

This event will be of interest to the growing international community concerned with animal welfare and  – as well as animal welfare researchersto those working in biomedical research, food animal production, slaughter, companion animal rehabilitation, the care of captive wild animals, and policy makers. 

Call for abstracts 

We welcome contributions that explore one or more of the disciplines that inform our understanding of animals and their welfare, including applied ethology, veterinary science, and physiology. Contributions can take one the following formats:  

  • Talk (typically 15 minutes plus 5 minutes questions) 
  • Short talk (typically 3 minutes plus 2 minutes questions) 
  • Poster 

When submitting the abstract you will be asked for its title, the preferred format of presentation, the name and contact details of all contributors, and information on the ethical oversight of the work undertaken. Abstracts should be in English and not exceed 400 words. Abstracts will be assessed on their scientific and animal welfare merits. If accepted, you may be asked to present in a format different to your preferred one.

  • Deadline for submission of abstracts – 10 February 2025 
  • Registration opens – 10 February 2025 
  • Notification of abstract acceptance – by 28 March 2025 
  • Deadline for accepting offer to contribute to the conference – 17 April 2025 
  • Deadline for receipt of amendments to accepted abstracts – 26 May 2025 
  • Start of conference 24 June 2024 (13.00 GMT+1) 
  • End of conference 26 June 2024 13.00 GMT+1).

Registration 

Registration for the conference opens on 10 February 2025 

Recordings of the talks will be available exclusively for registered delegates to view on demand after the conference for three months, after which they will be made available on the UFAW YouTube channel. 

Certificates of attendance will be issued to all delegates who attend the conference.
