Recent advances in animal welfare science - Now Fully Booked

UFAW Animal Welfare Conference

3rd July 2008

Birmingham Council House

As anyone working in the field of animal welfare will be aware, this cross-disciplinary area of study is attracting increasing interest and support and being asked to guide and inform legislation and practice relating to the use of animals. Nonetheless, the study of animal welfare is still a relatively young field of inquiry and it is one in which much still remains to be understood. As part of its on-going commitment to improving the way we understand and care for animals, the Universities Federation for Animal Welfare is holding a one day conference on ‘Recent advances in animal welfare science’. UFAW hopes that this meeting, which we intend should become a regular event, will provide a forum at which the broad community of scientists, veterinarians and others concerned with animal welfare can come together to share knowledge and practice, discuss advances and exchange views.

Other details:

As part of our commitment to providing a forum for the exchange of ideas to the widest range of those working in the field of animal welfare, the registration fee to attend this conference will be minimal and not more than £10.

Venue:

The conference is being held in The Banqueting Suite of Birmingham Council House, Victoria Square on 3rd July 2008.

Located in the pedestrianised centre of Birmingham, next to the museum and art gallery, the Council House, a Grade II* listed building themed on a Venetian Palace in classical Renaissance style, is one of the finest Victorian buildings in the country. Nearest train stations, New Street and Snow Hill, are both a five minute walk away and it is well served by buses.

University Links event

The UFAW representatives at Bristol, Newcastle, Edinburgh and Glasgow universities have joined forces and agreed to use some of their link monies to support an away ‘Walk and Talk’ weekend for their post-graduate students. During this weekend they will present their animal welfare work to their peers and discuss issues arising from it, get to know each other better and develop new contacts and collaborations. UFAW was happy to support this initiative because a trial last year, organised by the University of Bristol, had proved to be very successful and resulted in a fruitful exchange of ideas and techniques.
