Medal for Outstanding Contributions to Animal Welfare Science

Background
The UFAW Medal for Outstanding Contributions to Animal Welfare Science is a prize award to recognise the exceptional achievements of an individual scientist who has made fundamental contributions to the advancement of animal welfare over a number of years. The award is open to individuals whose research, teaching, service and advocacy has had international impact and significantly benefited the welfare of animals. Nominated candidates may be based in the United Kingdom or elsewhere.
The winner of this award will receive a £3000 cheque, a commemorative medal and a framed award certificate.
Nomination procedure
Nominations may be made on behalf of another individual or a candidate may nominate themself. Nominees must be aware that they are being nominated for the award. Organisations or institutions are not eligible to apply.
Nominations must be made on the attached nomination form. Additionally, two letters from well-established scientists in the field and in support of the nominated candidate should be included and the names of those providing these letters given in the nomination form. Please also include, if possible, a copy of the nominated candidate’s curriculum vitae, or short biography, and a list of publications. Please highlight up to three publications that you think best illustrate the quality of the nominee’s work.

Closing date
Please note that all nominations for the UFAW Medal for Outstanding Contributions to Animal Welfare Science award must reach the UFAW office by the 12th March 2012. THIS AWARD IS NOW CLOSED FOR 2012.
Nominations will be judged by a UFAW Panel following the closing date and the winning candidate will be notified and announced during 2012. Please note that unsuccessful candidates will not be contacted.
